Teen Titans Go! (A text review.)

Ok, so I recently watched “Teen Titans Go!” for the first time. I have heard many complaints about how the show is shit, doesn't keep to the source material, and is just plain stupid. Now everything I say from this point on is my personal opinion so please don’t get ass hurt and spam me hate mail.

I liked the show. “But Christian!” you might be screaming at me, “The show is stupid, has no plot, and doesn't make any sense as a Teen Titans show!” Well, you’re right except about the stupid part. The show has no plot, nor is it meant to. Each episode is its own story. That, to me, gives the show a rather Looney Toon-esque quality to it, as well as the jokes. They work, they're fun, and just plain funny. “But they make no sense! Teen Titans was a serious show!” you scream. Well it was, kind of. The show always had a serious tone to it that would keep the teenage me entertained while being offset by its light-hearted, Hanna-Barbera style jokes to make the kid in me laugh.  So, all Teen Titans Go! does is take the jokes and turn them into a fun, light-hearted cartoon that is not meant to be taken seriously.

Now, with that out of the way, we turn to the art. It is BAD. The original series had a dark, yet colorful look to it and that awesome anime-ish art style that made me love the beauty of the show. Now, in Teen Titans Go!, the art is bland and super cartoony. I can’t say I have any love for it and I do wish they would have kept the old style. I do understand the change though. The old style gave the show its serious tone and helped keep things dark when it needed to be and light and fun when it was warranted. So, the old style would make no sense for this light- hearted cartoon. Plus, the art actually helps some of the jokes. The horribleness is pointed out at times and leads to some funny jokes.

The music is my biggest complaint of all. The original series had amazing music scores that gave great atmosphere to the show. The new series seems to just have generic comedy music meant to try and make it more fun. I feel it takes away from the experience in ways. Music has to help build the comedy. Just like in any other show the music help add to the drama or suspense and it fail to add here. The music to me is just lacking and I wish it was better. Luckily, the theme song is just a remix of the original, so that’s good.

Now, I was told the characters were so different that you can’t even recognize who they are. Well, you are so wrong. Every character has their original personality intact though augmented for comedic effect. Robin has the leader complex and is in love with Starfire, though he is augmented to be too much in control and having a leader complex. Beast Boy is… Beast Boy. His character didn't need to be changed outside of using his morphing powers to make jokes. Starfire is still just trying to fit into normal earth society, and Cyborg is still the gamer and car guy he has always been. Lastly, Raven… Her change is the most drastic. She went from a dark and brooding teen to a dark and brooding teen who is a brony.  Yeah I just had to type that. It was a funny joke though and done really well.

All in all, I thought it was a fun and interesting show. Is it what I wanted? No, not at all. Ever since they canceled Teen Titans, I have been wanting more. So, when I heard about a new show, I got excited like most people. Then, we got the first commercial spot and I thought I would just hate it. I wanted a serious Teen Titans like I had in the past. Sadly, at this time, it’s not meant to be. With Young Justice airing, there is no need for two team-based super hero shows. So let’s not lament about what we don’t have and look at Teen Titans Go! as the fun and funny cartoon it is. So please, go watch it and help keep the ratings up. If the show does well, we may get to see a continuation of the original series.

New Show!!!!

After the Show is a review show that is not like other internet review shows. Im taking the review back to the Siskel & Ebert style of reviews. All im going to be doing is getting me and my friends together and watching a movie good or bad. There will be no rhyme or reason as to which movies we will be picking though new movies and suggestions will be top priority. So watch my vids on YouTube like them tell your friends or i will come in to your homes and force you to.
Ps forgot to put it in the show credits. The song is "To create monsters, We created monsters of our own."
